Two Factor Authentication

What is Two Factor Authentication?

The most traditional method of protecting local and remote logins has been the use of a simple username and password which is the case in various organizations across the globe. From accessing a company's databases to obtaining other confidential and sensitive information, all that one needs to do is enter these two basic pieces of information (username and password). But as we all know, passwords are painfully insecure and can be immensely harmful. Choice of weak passwords that can be easily guessed, phishing attacks, unsecured networks are some of the reasons which make passwords unsafe most of the times.

And this is not where the problem stops. Once your password is revealed, it’s impossible to tell who has access to your accounts, you cant even figure out if anyone is accessing them illicitly. In the past we have seen big organizations being compromised just by gaining knowledge of its users’ passwords. Hence it can be clearly stated that only passwords are simply not enough for protecting important logins. This is what Two factor Authentication is all about.
